More about baptism:
We practice baptism of the repentant believer by immersion in water, confident that this expresses the form and purposes of the New Testament precedent. To watch Pastor Cal's message on baptism click here to download an mp4 video.
At Central Christian Church of the East Valley we know people often have questions regarding baptism. Why should I be baptized? I’ve already been baptized, do I have to do it again? Does it matter if you are sprinkled or dunked?
Answers to these commonly asked questions are found in the Bible. We believe it clearly teaches us that baptism is the first step of obedience after making a commitment to Christ. Baptism allows a Christ-follower to communicate to the world their heart-felt commitment to Christ. Here are several verses found in the Bible speaking on baptism.
"At that time Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river." Mark 1:9
". . . many of the people who heard Him believed and were baptized." Acts 18:18
"We know that we have come to know Him, if we obey His commands." 1 John 2:3
"Christ died for our sins . . . He was buried . . . and He rose again." 1 Corinthians 15:3,4
"For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ." Colossians 2:12
"When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
"By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead . . .so also we may live a new life!" Romans 6:4
". . . and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience to God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 3:21
". . . baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Acts 19:15
"And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His name." Acts 22:16
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water." Matthew 3:16
